Materials: motion sensored sound player; From 2016/10/12 to 2016/10/21
When people enter the elevator, a voice is triggered to play through the motion sensored sound player -- "Hello from the children of planet Earth". The soundtrack is originally from the Greetings to the Universe in the Voyager Golden Record issued by NASA in 1978. The initiation of these "interstellar messages" was to communicate with extraterrestrials. All these early efforts in aerospace experiments echo the title "We Choose the Moon", a famous speech from John F. Kennedy, signifying the desire of knowing the other. Reversing the message senders into receivers reveals the alien nature of humans ourselves.
We Chose the Moon is part of The Elevator Project, a series of interventions that are performed in the elevator to investigate it as a confined and mobile public space.
